Vanuatu have been beaten in their first match in the new FIFA Series in Saudi Arabia, losing 6-0 to Guinea at King Abdullah Sports City.
The FIFA Series is a new competition designed to give national teams more opportunities to play against opponents from outside their respective confederations. Vanuatu’s first assignment as part of this new tournament has been a trip to Saudi Arabia, with fixtures against African side Guinea and Asia’s Brunei.
Three goals inside the opening twenty minutes made a difficult task that more challenging for Vanuatu, with a fourth added just five minutes before half-time as Guinea flexed their muscles.
The Oceania outfit improved considerably in the second period, conceding just twice and holding out for the majority of the final 30 minutes without their goal being breached further.
Next up for Head Coach Robert Yalou’s side is the challenge of Brunei on Wednesday, March 27.
