The annual FUTURO III Referee Instructors Course will be held in the Solomon Islands for the first time, with the event to take place from 12-16 October in Honiara.
Around 40 participants from all 11 OFC Member Associations are descending on the Solomon Islands capital with OFC Referee Development Officer Neil Poloso excited about hosting the event in his home country.
Poloso was quick to stress the importance of an event which has proven vital to the ongoing development of refereeing across Oceania.
“The seminar focuses on the education of the referee instructors, those who teach match officials how to be match officials. The ‘Teach the Teachers’ format covers both technical and fitness instructing and takes participants through activities on methodology, presentation skills and assessments on technical abilities (theoretical and practical training sessions),” Poloso stated.
Poloso will be joined by FIFA Technical Instructor Mohd Salleh Subkhiddin (Malaysia), FIFA Fitness Instructors Alejo Perez Leguizamon (Argentina) and Kader Touati (Tahiti), and FIFA Deputy Director of Referees Manuel Navaro (Spain).
“The primary objective for the technical course is to equip the Member Association referee instructors with the necessary knowledge, experience, and skills to educate their local referees on uniform interpretation of the Laws of the Game using modern teaching method and materials,” Poloso explained.
“For the fitness course, the primary objective is to equip the MA fitness instructors with theoretical knowledge and practical experience of referee fitness training.
“The participants are then expected to use pass on this information to the instructors and referees in their associations.”
The FUTURO III Referee Instructors Course is being held from the 12-16 October at the Solomon Kitano Mendana Hotel in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
