Following a hearing on 16 August 2019 in Sydney the Court of Arbitration for Sport has handed down its decision regarding the eligibility case of Solomon Islands’ footballer Chris Satu.
Mr Satu played for the Solomon Islands team during the OFC U-16 Championship 2018, that was held from 9-22 September 2018 in Honiara.
In February 2019, the OFC Disciplinary Committee found the player in question to have been born prior to 1 January 2002, and his participation at the tournament breached OFC disciplinary code and tournament regulations.
Solomon Islands Football Federation have successfully appealed the decision of the Disciplinary Committee with the OFC Appeal Committee, prompting Oceania Football Confederation to lodge an appeal application with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed the appeal and confirmed the decision of the OFC Appeal Committee allowing the Solomon Islands team to participate in the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil between 26 October and 17 November 2019.
