The 21st edition of the OFC U-20 Championship took place in 2016 and doubled as qualification for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup™ in South Korea.

The tournament was held in Vanuatu and was contested between eight nations.

Two late goals from Lucas Imrie helped New Zealand beat hosts and first-time finalists Vanuatu 5-0 in the final, securing their sixth OFC U-20 Championship title.

A 3-1 win over Honduras and a 0-0 draw with Vietnam enabled New Zealand to qualify through to the knockout stages at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup™ in South Korea for the second consecutive edition. Just like 2015, their run came to an end in the round of 16 though, losing 0-6 to the USA.
