OFC U-17 Championship 1986
The second edition of the OFC U-17 Championship took place in 1986 and doubled as qualifying for 1987 FIFA U-16 World Championship™ in Canada. The tournament was held in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, where Australia secured their second consecutive OFC U-17 Championship title after finishing with the most points in a round-robin format.
Competing in just their second FIFA U-16 World Championship, Australia punched above their weight, defeating Saudi Arabia in their opening match. They then followed that up with defeat to France before edging Brazil 1-0 to top their group and progress to the quarter-finals in Canada. In the quarterfinals, Australia suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria.
