OFC Futsal Men’s Champions League 2024
The second edition of the OFC Futsal Men’s Champions League was hosted by New Caledonia at the ‘LArène du Sud’ in Paita, just outside Noumea. There were five competing teams who played in a round robin format with the top two teams making it through to the final with the third and fourth place teams playing off for third.
The hosts were represented by AS PTT who had finished runners-up in the inaugural edition of the tournament and were determined to go one better in front of their home fans. Mataks FC represented the Solomon Islands and were expected to be a big threat given the country’s pedigree in Futsal and possessing the trio of experienced Mana brothers who are revered in the Solomon Islands. UNV FC represented Vanuatu, Suva Futsal Club travelled from Fiji and Veitongo FC represented Tonga.
The tournament kicked off with a thrilling 3-2 win for Mataks FC over UNV FC, while AS PTT made an early statement putting 11 goals past Veitongo on the opening day. The hosts then thumped UNV FC 7-2 to underly their favouritism for the title. The third match day produced the games of the tournament, first UNV FC winning an epic match 3-2 against Suva before AS PTT and Mataks FC played out an exhilarating 1-1 draw.
Mataks FC then confirmed their place in the final with a 5-1 win over Suva before AS PTT battled past an ever improving Veitongo FC 3-1 to guarantee their place in the title decider. UNV FC defeated Suva FC in a tightly contested playoff for third before AS PTT delighted the near capacity 2000 strong crowd with a dramatic 4-3 win over Mataks FC in the final.
