Driven by the Oceania Football Confederation’s (OFC) bold vision to elevate Member Associations (MAs) into high-performing football nations, a recent visit to the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) has strengthened its momentum on the path to becoming a high-performance organisation.
OFC’s Chief Operating Officer, Frederic Guillemont, and Head of MA Services, Flavia Lopes, travelled to Honiara recently to conduct an in-depth organisational review and leadership workshop with SIFF leadership and staff.
The visit aligned with OFC’s broader mission of strengthening Member Associations (MAs) through capacity-building initiatives, focusing on leadership development, operational efficiency, and strategic planning.
The visit has come at a period of tremendous growth at SIFF with a drive towards professionalisation on and off the pitch with the Federation looking positively towards the establishment of the OFC Professional League, which will be a game changer for football in the region.
“The collaboration between SIFF and OFC will help us define our identity as a football organisation—our values, strengths, potential, and areas for improvement,” said SIFF President Donald Marahare.
“We now have a clearer vision of our path forward and what needs to be done to elevate the Federation to new heights.” He added.
“The response to the workshop was overwhelmingly positive. SIFF leadership and team members were engaged, motivated and eager to refine their internal structures and enhance their operational efficiency,” Lopes said.
A key outcome of the visit was the development of an action plan, identifying priority areas for SIFF to address as it continues its progress toward a high-performance culture on and off the pitch.
“This collaboration was an important step in our commitment to strengthening football management across Oceania. The enthusiasm and dedication of SIFF’s leadership and team members were evident, and we are confident that with the right structures in place, the Federation will continue to grow both on and off the pitch. Our role at OFC is to build capacities in football management and leadership, provide resources needed for long term success.” Guillemont said.
This initiative is part of OFC’s ongoing Capacity Building Programme, which provides tailored services to Mas. The OFC Capacity Building programme in football management includes the Executive Programme for General Secretaries, the development of a Football Management certificate and diploma, and the Corporate Management Framework; which is designed to support MAs on the different management areas with coaching and mentoring.
OFC remains committed to mentoring and supporting SIFF in implementing its action plan, ensuring long-term growth and success for football in the Solomon Islands.
