Defending champions Lae City Dwellers are on track to another OFC Champions League appearance next year, with a strong lead on the table ahead of today’s Papua New Guinea National Soccer League triple header at Bisini Soccer grounds in Port Moresby.

Sitting comfortably on 16 points – three ahead of 2nd place Madang FC – Lae City are feeling confident about securing another three points today when they play Vitis Yamaros FC, who are yet to win a game.

Although the Dwellers are feeling positive after an impressive 7-0 win against Buang last week, coach Peter Gunemba is not taking this afternoon’s encounter lightly.

“It won’t seem like an easy win,” he said.

“We are expecting quite tough challenge from the Yamaros side.”

After their narrow 3-2 loss to Besta PNG United FC last week, Vitis Yamaros coach Micah Kaneng is approaching their meeting with Lae City as another chance for his side to be challenged and improve against the best.

“It will be a learning process for the boys and if we can give Besta FC a tough time then it’s all about improving and defending each opponent in the match,” he said.

Lae City Dwellers will meet Vitis Yamaros at 12:30pm after Besta PNG United FC and Madang FC – sitting on 10 and 13 points, respectively – open the triple header at 10am (local time).

The final match of the day will see Huawei PS and Buang FC meet at 3pm. In fifth position on seven points, a win for Buang would place them equal with their opponents on 10 points. Depending on results from the day’s earlier fixtures, a win for Huawei PS could see them move as high as second on the table.
