The Solomon Islands never recovered for a slow start in their opening FIFA Futsal World Cup match on Tuesday morning New Zealand time, going down 6-0 to Morocco after leaking two goals inside the opening four minutes at Kaunas Arena in Lithuania.
Successful strikes a minute apart from Soufiane El Mesrar and Achraf Saoud set the tone for Morocco, but to their credit the Kurukuru shook off the early setback to find their way into the match and enjoy parity through the next 10 minutes.
After a string of quality saves, keeper Anthony Talo was beaten down low by substitute Idriss Raiss El Fenni and Morocco took a 3-0 lead into the break.
Quick play in front of goal saw the African side break through for an open shot on 28 minutes which Bilal Bakkali took full advantage of, before Otamane Boumezou stabbed a powerful shot home.
Soufiane Borite brought up six for Morocco six minutes from full-time as his side celebrated their first ever FIFA Futsal World Cup victory.
Up next the Kurukuru face Portugal on September 17 Lithuania time.
