The Solomon Islands beach soccer team have been endorsed to represent Oceania at the Association National Olympic Committee (ANOC) World Beach Games Qatar 2019 being held in Doha from 11-16 October 2019.
The OFC Beach Soccer Nations Cup runners-up got the nod ahead of the champions Tahiti because its not an Olympic-eligible nation due to its ties to the French Olympic Committee.
Solomon Islands Football Federation President Willie Lai said taking part in the World Beach Games would be an honour for the Bilikiki, and will help development with SIFF hoping to see beach soccer included in the 2023 Pacific Games.
The World Beach Games beach soccer competition will see representatives from each FIFA Confederation take part, with Solomon Islands the sole representative of OFC.
They will be joined by:
- UEFA: Russia, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Ukraine,
- CONMEBOL: Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay,
- CAF: Senegal, Morocco,
- AFC: Iran, Japan, UAE,
- CONCACAF: 2 teams TBC
