AS Vénus will return to Tahiti with their heads held high after putting together a valiant performance in an eventual 2-0 loss to Trélissac FC in Round 7 of the Coupe de France last weekend.
A goal in each half was enough to see Trélissac – who play in France’s National 2 (fourth tier) – to victory against Vénus at Stade Firmin-Daudou in the southwest of France, knocking the 10-time Tahitian champions out of the competition.

Vénus head coach Samuel Garcia said the mammoth 16,000km-plus trip to France had been well worth it for his side.
“The trip has been a very positive experience for the whole team and club,” he said.
“I have to congratulate my players for their exemplary conduct through this whole process and trip; they have been excellent.
“We showed really good form in this match against a team which plays in a higher division than us.
“Top level football is all about the small details and we have to learn from our mistakes to get better in the future.”
