Football Federation Samoa (FFS) President Savae Togia Toetu Petana and members of the FFS staff were on hand to welcome the pair who arrived early Thursday morning from Auckland, New Zealand.
Chung is visiting Samoa to attend the official opening of the new FFS futsal court at Tuanaimato and the Regional Technical Centre in Iva, Savaii where he will be unveiling the plaques.
The openings will take place this weekend on Friday, 23 August for the futsal courts and on Saturday, 24 August for the technical centre.
Chung says he is very happy to be in Samoa to attend the events which are important FIFA Goal IV Projects that will go a long way towards building up the beautiful game.
He said he will also be taking advantage of this visit to spend time working closely with the FFS technical department as they continue to develop football locally.
“It is good to see Samoa keeping up their facilities and successfully implementing Goal Projects but facilities are not key to developing football.”
Chung says while good facilities are important, the key objective is to have an effective technical department.
“The vision of the technical department is essential. Without some technical ability or detailed plans for development, more facilities have no meaning,” he says.
Chung will be working closely with FFS staff who will outline their strategic plan and identify how the game is progressing in terms of coach and player development.
“I want to get the views of locals – what have they learnt, how they have progressed,” he says. “The mission now is for Polynesian countries to rise up and become more competitive.”
Chung acknowledged the great work by FFS administrators, saying with their continued commitment he anticipates that football in Samoa will continue on a strong path of development.
