PAGO PAGO – The winner of the men and women’s divisions of the FFAS 2008 Senior League will receive a perpetual trophy each sponsored by local distributor Panamex Pacific, a trophy from the soccer association, $500 and three soccer balls.

Second place will receive a trophy, $300 and two soccer balls while the team that finishes third will get a trophy, $150 and two soccer balls.

Pago Youth has an insurmountable lead of 28 points while Black Roses and Renegades have 24 each.

They are on their way to collecting the title because of a forfeiture win this coming Saturday against Utulei Youth, a team that was hit with its third forfeit earlier in the season.

By rule, a team that forfeits three games in the season is out of the competition but its scheduled games for the season still count as wins for the teams it is supposed to play against.

After this Saturday the three points from the forfeit win over Utulei Youth will give Pago Youth 31 with one match remaining in the season, next Saturday against bottom-of-the-standings FC SKBC.

Should Black Roses and Renegades win their last two games, the six points they will receiver will not be enough to overcome Pago Youth’s 31 points even if they lose to FC SKBC next week.

Black Roses is second because of 51 goals difference to the Renegades 16.

Pago Youth escaped a close one against Fagatogo on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 at Pago Park by winning 5-3 after going into the break down 1-0. In other games played on that day, FC SKBC won by forfeit 3-0 against Peace Brother; Pansa Men edged Fagasa Youth 3-2; Black Roses downed the Tafuna Jets 8-5; Green Bay lost 9-1 against Lion Heart and Ilaoa & Toomata won by forfeit against Utulei.

This Saturday, the men’s games are Fagatogo vs. Black Roses at 8:30 a.m. on Field 1; Fagasa Youth vs. Renegades (1) and FC SKBC vs. Ilaoa & Toomata (2) at 10:30; and Tafuna Jets vs. Lion Heart (1) and Pansa Men vs. Peace Brother (2) at 1:30 p.m.

Below is a rundown of Tuesday’s games.

PAGO YOUTH 5, FAGATOGO 3

Pago Youth’s Ailao Tualaulelei Jr. countered Fagatogo’s Sulufai Afasene’s hat trick with one of his own to help his team earn the much needed three points to keep them ahead of Black Roses and Renegades for first place in the men’s standings.

It was a bit dicey for Pago Youth in the beginning as Fagatogo led 1-0 after the first half and desperation started to settle in for the game’s eventual winners as their constant attacks were turned away each time by Fagatogo.

Finally, AJ equalized the game with a header and then the goals started to pour in as they played in front for most of the second half.

Henry Chin-Fu Ta’ase and Ben Satele added the other two goals that helped Pago Youth win.

BLACK ROSES 8, TAFUNA JETS 5

Black Roses were guided to victory with the help of two hat tricks by Ramin Ott and Luki Gosche.

The Jets’ Pili Sam Taulealo and Fa’aili Mata’u both scored twice as their team played from behind for the entire match.

PANSA MEN 3, FAGASA YOUTH 2

Epa Hunt led his team to victory over Fagasa Youth with a hat trick in a very closely played game last Saturday. Sa’aga and Justin Tome scored for Fagasa Youth.

LION HEART 9, GREEN BAY 2

Green Bay was overmatched by Lion Heart’s faster and quicker players, but that dominance did not come until the second half as both teams went into the break with Lion Heart leading 2-0.

FC SKBC 3, PEACE BROTHER 0

FC SKBC won by forfeit against Peace Brother after the game was called off with about five minutes remaining in the match. At that point Peace Brother, who had been playing shorthanded with only eight players, were ahead 3-2.

The game was called off after a Peace Brother player was taken off of the field due to an injury, leaving only six players on the field for their team. Earlier in the second half a Peace Brother was sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the match.

By rule a team must have seven players suited up and ready to play, the minimum number required for an official game to be played. With only six players on the field for Peace Brother the match was called off at this point as a forfeit win for FC SKBC.
