Faced with a Hienghene squad missing Roy and Miguel Kayara, Iamel Kabeu and talismanic striker Bertrand Kai, all on national duty with Les Cagous, Lössi quickly stamped their mark on the final thanks to an opening goal from Jean-Christophe Wajoka in the sixth minute.
With plenty of room up the middle of the pitch, Jacques Haeko took advantage of the opportunity to take a run and dribble past the goalkeeper to score six minutes ahead of the break.
After their goal took a battering in the first half, Hienghene returned in the second period with much greater intensity but Lössi never really relinquished control of the game.
Instead they added two more goals in quick succession to put the match out of reach of the northern-based club. Marek Aucher got his first after lifting the ball high in the air and sending it flying into the goal on the volley in the 62nd minute. Haeko then got his brace just a minute later after capitalising on a rebound which landed right at his feet.
Lossi captain Luther Wahnyamalla says his side were fortunate to be able to take advantage of a weaker than normal Hienghene side, while remaining at full strength themselves.
“We know their value, but with all their missing players, we knew that they were weakened and that they would have some problems in the middle of the field,” Wahnyamalla says.
Meanwhile, Hienghene captain Fabiano Dahite says despite their loss in the final, the tournament has been a positive experience on the whole for his team.
“We knew that it would be hard. The goal was really not to give up and keep fighting,” Dahite says.
“There were some younger players who have had very little game time and we could take advantage of the situation to give them some experience in a big match. We need to continue like that.”
