The Savai’i Regional Technical Centre was officially opened by OFC president David Chung last month and is set to become a hub for all things football on the island.
Twenty D Licence participants from the island’s eight registered clubs gathered there to learn the ins-and-out of how to prepare, organise and deliver a training session to players aged between five-12 years old.
The three day course was facilitated by FFS staff members Lynette Fa’aiuaso and Tala Saveaalii with assistance from OFC coach/mentor Simon Toselli.
The goal is to provide local coaches a clear understanding of how to organise and deliver a training session at Grassroots level. The next step will be learning how to deliver that content to players aged 13-18 years old, which is delivered in a separate course.
FFS CEO Sarai Bareman says the course was an excellent way to introduce FFS activities to Savai’i based coaches and players.
“We now have these fantastic facilities in Savai’i and it is very important that we give as much support and assistance to the people of Savai’i as possible to develop and strengthen their clubs, especially at Grassroots and Youth level,” Bareman says.
“This course is the first step towards doing that.”
