With hopes of once again joining the football elite, the Federation Tahitienne de Football is pleased to welcome a FIFA Coaching Course – Elite Seniors to its shores.
Attending will be the senior team coaches from each of the clubs participating in the National League, as well as the coaches of Tahiti’s national football teams.
Former New Caledonia national coach and now OFC Head of Coach Education Didier Chambaron will be leading the course, sharing a wealth of knowledge and experience with the 25 participants.
While Chambaron will discuss how coaches can best deal with player management issues, he will also be looking closely at the principles of the game which are underlying concepts and ideas that are fundamental to play effectively at an elite level.
“Any game of football, regardless of formation or playing style, can be divided into four phases: ball possession, opponent ball possession and two transitions – offensive/defensive and defensive/offensive,” Chambaron explains.
“We call these phases the ‘Four moments of the Game’. These, as well as analysis of current trends both abroad and locally in Tahiti, will all come under examination during this course.”
Chambaron says the annual training plan is the basis for all coaching, and a coach’s first task is to draw this up before a new season starts.
“This plan varies from country to country, either because of the structure of the competitions, or because of cultural, weather and even financial considerations. It can also vary according to whether the coach is working with top-level players or with young players that are still being developed,” he says.
“It relies on the same methodological principles. All components that affect the game – Technical, Tactical, Physical and Mental, should not be trained in isolation or out of the context of the game since they should all interact in order to achieve the maximum performance during the match.”
Chambaron says while there will always be issues and approaches that need to be taken into consideration, the main concern will always remain the players and how to meet their needs.
What makes this course unique is that the content is specific to Tahitian football.
“Each part of the game that we will analyse will be linked back to football in Tahiti as a working example of how this knowledge is, or can be, applied.”
The FIFA Coaching Course – Elite Seniors is being held in Tahiti at the FTF headquarters from 19-23 May.
