Dedicated fans lined the stands at Prince Charles Park in Nadi for the much anticipated final where Labasa coach Bal Sanju Reddy led a determined side to their fourth Fiji FACT title.
Ravinesh Karan Singh scored the opener in the 29th minute but the win wasn’t sealed until late in the second half when Tiaone Kerevanua gave his side two goal buffer to secure the victory.
Reddy says the victory was proof his team was no less worthy of earning a champions title than any of their rivals.
“We came into this tournament with two to three weeks preparation and were very determined to win and return home with the trophy,” he says.
“After winning the first game against Tailevi Naitasiri we knew we were capable of lifting the title and the boys stuck to the game plan we had drawn for them and did not lose their focus and determination.
“We wanted to remain unbeaten in the tournament and we managed to achieve this feat. The credit goes to all the players for giving their best and also to the officials who believed in our aim and supported us all throughout.”
Labasa claimed their first Fiji FACT title in 1992, followed by two further titles in 1997 and 1999.
