NOUMEA – Federation Caledonienne de Football (FCF) officials have congratulated the sixteen young referees that officiated at the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Youth Festival (of Football) at Stade Pentecost in May/June.
The tournament brought together together twenty teams in the under 12 age bracket, six from New Caledonia and fourteen from amongst New Zealand, Tahiti, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Vanuatu.
During the three day tournament the FCF junior referee team officiated in nearly 60 matches as Fiji ran out winners of the championship with a 2-0 win over Auckland.
They were supervised by leaders and officials of the FCF Referee Development Committee who took the opportunity to expose the referee contingent – aged between 15-22 on average – a chance to work on various officiating techniques.
FCF General Secretary said the federation was pleased with the performance of the youngsters in an international environment and added that some of the candidates would likely get the chance to officiate in the Super Ligue Nestle in seasons to come.
