The course is a chance to highlight the success of women’s football around the world and help Solomon Islands to become part of that success.
This particular course is focused on coaches of 13-16 year olds who will be coaching teams taking part in the upcoming women’s U-16 leagues.
This course has equipped participants the skills and knowledge to develop players in the youth category. Concepts covered include age specific training, basic skills for players and the player development pathway.
The course was opened on Monday 6 April by SIFF President William Lai, who called for more action on the development of women’s football.
“I am pleased to open this course because it represents a vision for greater emphasis and action on women’s football in our federation. Women’s football has been ignored for a number of year and it is high time for us to address it,” Lai said.
“My executive will take the steps necessary to see that the women’s game is promoted and developed in line with the principles of FIFA. We have the potential to be competitive internationally if we start acting now and such courses are positive signs.”
Demaine says that the course will contribute to growing the women’s game in Solomon Islands through awareness and education of the participants who will work with young women.
“This course is a chance to highlight the success of women’s football around the world and help the Solomon Islands to become part of that success,” Demaine says.
“Such FIFA courses,” she continues,”are a good opportunity for locals to get access to high quality training and education material that empowers them to support local development.”
The FIFA Youth Coaching Course was held from 6-10 April, 2014 in Honiara.
