But it was a different stadium attracting the attention of an inspection delegation from FIFA led by FIFA senior manager of futsal and beach soccer competitions Jaime Yarza.
The FIFA group were instead focusing on Stade Tahua To’ata, also in Papeete, which will host all of the World Cup matches during the competition which runs from 18-28 September.
The purpose of the visit was to evaluate the progress of work being carried out on the site, which is being overseen by the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
Yarza said the delegation had a lot of work to finalise during their visit to Tahiti.
“The first is certainly communicating with the Local Organising Committee on the finalisation of the work here at To’ata Stadium and the other is to prepare all the arrangements for the draw which will take place in June and, finally, to coordinate all the groundwork with the LOC in general,” he said.
“Having visited this place I have found that it is a stadium which will probably be the most beautiful stadium that we have ever had for a world cup. We are very pleased. I think that we have found a very good solution for Tahiti and for the Beach Soccer World Cup.”
