While at home visiting family, Krishna scheduled time to head a two-day coaching clinic in the Nadi district, sharing the knowledge and skills he has picked up in a career brimming with local and international experience,
The former Labasa star says it was a great experience visiting Nadi Sangam Primary School and Sabeto Primary and meeting Fiji’s players of the future.
“It is always a privilege to share my knowledge. the clinic is to show what I do in New Zealand besides playing football,” Krishna says.
“I also teach kids in New Zealand and I would like to thank my sponsors and school management for giving me this opportunity to contribute. Back in my school days we were not used to this, and to come back to Fiji and present this clinic is something good.
“The important factor is that football starts with the younnger generations. You have older players now featuring in local tournaments but the key to football success is definitely through training school students who want to make something out of football.
“Fiji has good potential in terms of playing football and the local clubs have the power to produce top performers who can compete internationally. In the end, it comes down to discipline and effor on the part of the players.”
National coaching director Juan Carlos Buzzetti and his assistant Imdad Ali were also part of the two-day programme and expressed their happiness that Krishna could return to lend his support to Fiji football.
Buzzetti says Krishna is proof that Fijian players can compete among the best of them, and his move to Auckland City confirms they have the calibre to go even further to the world’s top clubs.
“Fijian players have what it takes to be ehere to play for any top club and if given the exposure to play at that level, thay will be a good assest for any top clubs and Krishna has shown that calibre and is a players who has a lot of quality,” Buzzetti says.
“It is a proud moment for Fijian football. Fijian players have a lot of talent and with Krishna joining the top club in Oceania to play at the World Cup level, more Fijian players might be inspired to follow in his footsteps.
“The 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand, the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil and the FIFA World Cup in 2018 are our main targets and we are working towards playing in these top competitions.”
