Player-coach Tuka Tisam, also Cook Islands Football Association technical director, says the side is ecstatic after claiming the prestigious title.
“This is the first time ever that we have won the Premiership and I would like to thank the players and club officials for their efforts throughout the season,” Tisam says.
Puaikura claimed the title after a stunning run of nine wins, three draws and zero losses in the 2013 season.
The victory ends Tupapa Maraerenga’s hold on the title and earns Puaikura a spot in the next edition of the OFC Champions League Preliminary, details of which are yet to be confirmed.
Club president Junior Areai, the executive committee and the players were keen to recognise their sponsors and supporters.
“On behalf of the club we would like to say a big meitaki maata to our players for the great season, to our supporters for encouraging the players and our sponsors for the continued support this year.”
It was a successful season in more than one way for the club, with the U-17 men’s and U-14 boy’s also taking top honours in their divisions.
In the Senior Women’s Championship Nikao Sokattak is sitting on 26 points with Tupapa Maraerenga just one point behind. Nikao need to win their final match on Saturday to secure the championship.
In the U-14 girl’s Tupapa Maraerenga have earned an early victory ahead of Matavera with the final matches to be played this weekend.
The newly introduced U-11 mixed division has been won by Tupapa Maraerenga with Titikaveka and Matavera in second and third place respectively.
The last round of games will be concluded by Saturday, 23 November.
