This year the disciplines of beach soccer and futsal have been added into the mix bringing an even greater amount of fun activities at a grassroots level.
The event had already seen close to 220 young footballers take part ahead of its arrival in the Southern Province as more young people are introduced to the world game.
The Challenge Benjamins, organised by FCF with partner Canal + Caledonie, is in its eighth year of taking football around the country, including to the Loyalty Islands.
It is the first time the event has been held at the technical centre in Paita, but the site is an ideal host, especially for the two newly introduced disciplines.
While the goal of the event is to introduce football, it is always with a festive spirit focussing on sharing,
enthusiasm, pleasure and fair play.
FCF football development officer Mathieu Delcroix says the inclusion of futsal and beach soccer this year is an extension of the multi-activity and FIFA Grassroots festivals that have been implemented by the FCF.
“Every year we offer a maximum number of activities to the children in a fun, festive and non-competitive environment,” Delcroix says.
“Primarily we want everyone to enjoy themselves, but it’s also a chance for children to discover these different football disciplines too.”
He says the first three events were very successful with a reach that proves clubs around the country are interested in being involved.
“The success of each stage in this series is due in large part to the investment of the educators.”
The final day of the 2013 Challenge Benjamins is scheduled for 31 August at Stade Hnasse in Lifou, where 115 children participated last year.
