Recently-elected Fiji Football Association President Rajesh Patel confirmed the appointments following the association’s board of control meeting in Ba.
Ali has been named head coach and will be supported by Swamy in an assistant coach role.
“They have both been given two-year contracts,” Patel says.
“We will monitor their performance and extend their contracts on an optional basis. This will be done in the interests of long-term development.”
Ali is currently coach of Lautoka while Swamy is in charge of Tavua.
The pair’s main task will be to prepare the U-23 team for the qualifying tournament for the 2012 London Olympics, which Fiji is set to host in March. The country will also stage the women’s qualifiers for the Olympics in the same month.
Ali, who works as an assistant head master at Lautoka Primary School, is not a new face on the national scene having formerly coached the Fiji U-17 side.
As well as the appointment of Ali and Swamy, the Fiji FA board of control also confirmed during its meeting that U-21 teams will be put in place in each district to ensure future development.
“Our development plan is for all districts to have an U-21 team, this will be compulsory,” Patel says.
Patel also revealed that a potential coach for the senior national team has been identified and that an announcement on the appointment would be made later.
“The board has given the okay for my selection but I cannot reveal the name as yet. I will have to talk to him and get back to the board.”
The new boss of the senior side will be responsible for preparing the squad for the OFC Nations Cup, which will take place in Fiji in June and is a key part of the qualification process for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
