After a hectic three days of matches, the champaionship came to its conclusion with the semi-finals and final held at LFA Park on Friday.
The U-20 semi-finals saw LFA beat Port Moresby to progress to the final while Lahi edged out Madang to face their sister association LFA in the final.
In the U-17 pool Madang beat Bialla and LFA belted Lahi to advance in to the final.
The finals were watched by a crowd of faithful football supporters who were treated to an exciting U-17 final which saw Madang, who had displayed an entertaining brand of football from day one, beat their hosts LFA 5–4 in a penalty shootout.
LFA had to overcome a stiff challenge from their sister association Lahi, the U-20 defending champions, to see their name engraved on the Niugini Tablebirds Cup.
The Niugini Tablebirds Sponsored National Youth Women’s Tournament sanctioned by PNGFA kicked off on Tuesday and ended on Friday with 13 teams participating, five at U-17 level and eight in the U-20. The teams taking part are from Bialla, Goroka, Madang, Port Moresby (NCD PSSA & PMSA), Manus, Markham and Lae (LFA & Lahi).
PMSA were participating in the tournament for the first time and were able to make it to the semi-final againt LFA after defeating some more experienced opponents during pool play.
LFA organizing committee member John Peka expressed gratitude to the Niugini Tablebirds for coming on board to sponsor the tournament and also thanked PNGFA for choosing LFA to host the tournament.
