For the Wellington Phoenix vs Melbourne Heart game at Westpac Stadium on Sunday January 29, the Phoenix and Capital Football have joined forces in an initiative that sees the ticket revenue split between the Phoenix, local football clubs in Wellington and Capital Football.
Wellington Phoenix head of marketing David Dome says the Phoenix are sensitive to what is happening in their local supporter base and want to provide assistance while at the same time making it a beneficial exercise for everyone.
“We understand the Phoenix is part of the local football community and we are conscious the local football clubs – our bread and butter support – are doing it tough in making ends meet financially,” Dome says.
“At this time of year, in the lead up to the start of the 2012 season, fundraising has to begin and we want to help out with that. Obviously, we also wanted to make it worthwhile for us as a club so we sat down with Capital Football to nut out an idea that would work.”
Dome says what they came up with was a slightly discounted price for football clubs coupled with a revenue share that will hopefully benefit all parties.
“There is no doubt the club has been disappointed with the size of crowds recently,” Dome says.
“In order to encourage supporters back, and to make it as affordable as possible while also benefitting the game in Wellington, we’ve come up with this initiative. The idea is that everyone will be better off.”
Capital Football CEO Grant Herman says it’s been a great exercise to be a part of.
“This is an example of the good working relationship we have with the Phoenix,” Herman says.
“We are really pleased we can work on this initiative with the Phoenix and hope local clubs take full advantage of this opportunity to get in behind the club while generating some all important revenue for the upcoming season.”
Herman says the funds generated will go towards supporting the game at grassroots level.
“We’ve got a number of initiatives underway and we see these funds as supporting the game at the local club level. We want to continue to grow and support the development of the game as detailed in New Zealand Football’s Whole of Football plan and our own strategic plan.”
The promotion goes live on Wednesday 18 January at 9am.
