Fisher’s deft header from Jake Butler lob two minutes into time added on gave Waitakere a late winner on the away goals rule with the scores tied 4-4 on aggregate.
It was a cruel blow for Team Wellington who had earlier taken the lead after an Andy Barron free-kick left Waitakere goalkeeper Danny Robinson beaten after just ten minutes.
The goal gave Wellington a healthy 4-2 aggregate lead but a late onslaught by the home side saw substitute Ryan de Vries level the scores when he accepted a pass from Benjamin Totori then beat goalkeeper James Bannatyne in the 71st minute.
With Waitakere United trailing 4-3 on aggregate and needing a further goal to take the match on the away goals rule, the home side threw players forward in search of the vital goal and it finally came when Butler played Fisher through for the last gasp winner.
It was Fisher’s sixth goal of the season and his first since he bagged a brace in a 3-2 win over YoungHeart Manawatu in January.
For Wellington it was a cruel blow with their second ever Grand Final appearance a mere sixty seconds away before Fisher struck the decisive blow.
Waitakere will now be interested spectators of Sunday’s second semi-final between Auckland City and Canterbury United at Kiwitea Street, to see who joins them in the summer showpiece on April 25.
Auckland take a 2-1 lead from the first leg in Christchurch but the tie is still delicately balanced at the halfway point.
Canterbury need a 2-0 win to advance to the Grand Final while a win or draw will be enough for Auckland to progress to their fifth finals appearance in six seasons.
