Local media in Solomon Islands reported this week that Fa’arodo’s decision to play for Hekari in the FIFA World Club Championship 2010 and the 2010/11 O-League is final.
Fa’arodo says the main reason for his decision is the World Club Championship, during which Hekari will represent Oceania at the end of the year.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I want to experience the challenge of playing in one of the biggest football events in the world,” he says.
It will also give him the opportunity to attract the attention of scouts for clubs in the Asian region and maybe even Europe.
“I am interested in playing in the J-League in Japan or the K-League in South Korea. I hope the World Club Championship will help me do that,” Fa’arodo says.
“At this stage my focus is 100 per cent on Hekari and the O-League. Ours is a tough group and will contribute greatly to our preparations for the World Club Championship.”
These statements have put to rest continued speculation that Fa’arodo would switch to the green and gold of local champions and O-League representatives Koloale FC.
Fa’arodo was instrumental in Koloale’s qualification for the O-League and the club had hoped to get Fa’arodo’s signature on paper for their upcoming campaign.
He could have again formed a potent combination with Benjamin Totori, a partnership that flourished for Koloale during the Our Telekom National Club Championship in June.
Totori is training with Koloale but the confirmation of a contract for the Waitakere United striker has not yet been announced.
