Jacquemet’s career as a player saw him spend time in France’s Division 2 with Valence before moving on to Tahiti club AS Venus.
Now, with his role as a FIFA instructor he is putting in the ground work to bring goalkeepers around the region up to scratch by educating the educators.
The course welcomed just fewer than 20 participants looking to learn, or build on, the basic but essential skills required to improve the quality of goalkeepers in the country.
“FIFA put in place this goalkeeper coaching programme in 2011, and for the Oceania region two regional courses have been organised, both in 2011. Here in New Caledonia it’s the first goalkeeper coaching course for a federation in the Pacific,” Jacquemet says.
This is an excellent opportunity for the goalkeeping coaches of the country whose sole objective, through this training, is to develop skills to coach this position – which is key to the success of any football team.
The course covered the preparation and implementation of detailed sessions, preparing for matches, physical preparation and a variety of other topics were all covered during the five day course.
“With help from the technical department of the local federation, OFC has identified an urgent need to develop coaches for goalkeepers,” Jacquemet says.
With representatives present from each of the three committees it is likely that clubs throughout the nation will benefit from this course.
