PORT MORESBY – The Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA)is ready to go to the polls PNGFA chief executive officer Dimirit Mileng said in a press release yesterday.
Mileng said nominations for the position of PNGFA president and six executive committee members for the association were open after the 30th executive committee meeting had proposed the date for the annual general congress.
The congress will be held in Mt Hagen on July 5.
“All nominations have closed and after verifying the nomination forms, the following candidates are vying for the position of president,” Mileng said.
He said the incumbent David Chung is running for a second term, while his senior vice president, Seth Daniels has also been nominated to contest the position.
“Port Moresby Soccer Association president Fabian Chow has been nominated to contest the seat.
This brings to three the candidates for the high profile position of the president,” he said.
Six executive committee members will also be voted for during the congress, to bring the members of PNGFA to seven as per the requirements of the statute.
He said those that had been nominated including current members are: John Raka, Linda Wonuhali, Kurt Reimann, Joe Turia, and Seth Daniels.
Others who are also vying to get elected and have been nominated are: Simon Koima, Stan Basiou, James So-on, Peter Angasa, Fabian Chow, Steven Peris, Morea Vavine and John Kapi Natto.
The election of president and the committee members will use the elimination process as required under the statutes of PNGFA.
There will be no election of the senior and junior vice presidents during the congress.
The FIFA and Oceania Football Confederation statutes have been adapted by the PNGFA and included in the PNGFA statutes.
During the PNGFA congress all the candidates for the positions of president and committee members will be voted for by the delegates of member associations using a ballot paper with an elimination process as required.
