O’Leary, joined by Jan Hendrik Hintz of New Zealand and Ravinesh Kumar of Fiji, officiated during Greece’s 2-1 victory over Mexico in their first Group D match of the tournament at Kamil Ocak Stadium on June 22 in Gaziantep, Turkey.
Despite the central American side’s dominance they went a goal behind after Andreas Bouchlakis scored in the 16th minute.
However when O’Leary awarded Mexico a free-kick ten minutes before the break Jorge Espericueta stepped up and struck a fierce, curling strike that left goalkeeper Stefanos Kapino with no chance of stopping.
Greece burst out of the blocks in the second half and finally took the lead with two minutes left on the clock when Dimitrios Kolovos turned on the edge of the area, before firing a rocket past Richard Sanchez to claim a debut victory.
It was a relatively quiet match in charge for the trio with the only caution coming in second half injury time with Greek keeper Kapino the recipient of a yellow card from O’Leary.
