President of Tupuji Imere FC, Mr. Philip Malas confirmed the news last week.“
“In a TIFC Executive Meeting last week, Coach David Chilia who is a long time Former Vanuatu National Goal Keeper has been appointed TIFC’s New Head Coach for our 2013/14 TVL Championship.” Said Philip Malas.
“Coach David Chilia comes in with a wealth of experience and the TIFC Executives has given him their blessings to take on this important role as of today Thursday 10th Oct 2013.”
“Our long time Coach ,Eddie Mansale who is also a TIFC Executive member will be our TIFC Assistant Coach and has except & respect the TIFC Executive decision and will work closely with Coach David Chilia.” Said Mr. Malas.
Born into a humble family ( his parents were sort of like farmer) David Chilia’s life is intrinsically linked to football. Train in Tupuji Imere youth squad, Chilia debuted in the top flight with the Vanuatu national side.
He then transferred to Tafea FC and help the Reds won 4 league title. One of the most important tournament in his life is he helps Tafea reach the final of the first ever OFC Club Championship in Papua New Guinea against Wollongong Wolves in 2001. They lost to the Wolves 1-0.
He then transferred to play for Spirit 08 FC, Shepherds United and today his got the highest coaching job as Tupuji Imere head coach for 2013-2014 season.
He also helps Vanuatu national team beat the All Whites 4-2 for the first time in the history of football in Vanuatu at the Hindmarsh stadium in Adelaide 2004.
His first game for his club will be against the Vanuatu club Champion, Tafea FC this Friday at 3pm.
