Issa was one of the standouts of the Ba side which made it into the 2013 OFC Champions League semi-finals, where his skill in front of the goal saw him net six times to claim the top scorer trophy.
But with the Fiji FA recently adopting a motion which now restricts foreign players from taking part in any national competitions, the Nigerian was forced out of the Men in Black’s line-up.
At the time, Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said the decision was made because of the large number of issues surrounding foreign players – especially in regards to work permits.
“Districts fielded most players without work permits, hence many players were deported out of the country,” Patel said following the decision in August 2012.
“The no foreign player policy should encourage development and force districts to look into their own backyard. This indeed should strengthen local competition and generally improve the standard of football in the country,” he added.
Issa arrived in Vanuatu on Wednesday and is expected to take to the field for the Red Roosters as early as this Saturday against Spirit 08 FC.
Port Vila Football Association (PVFA) administrator Bong Shem says there are a few last minute bits to tidy up in order to clear Issa to play this weekend.
“I just want to confirm that my office has received his International Transfer Certificate and we are just waiting for the last few documents before he can take the field on Saturday,” Shem says.
“Port Vila Football Association would like to welcome Sanni Issa and all other foreign players now playing in Port Vila.”
