The match kicks off
2′ New Zealand have the early possession and are stroking it around the back
3′ Shane Smeltz gets his head to a deep cross for New Zealand but the ball goes out and he is ruled offside anyway
5′ Roy Krishna breaks forward for Fiji and feeds Osea Vakatalesau but the striker’s effort is blocked by Ivan Vicelich
8′ Fiji have had a bit more of the ball in the last few minutes and have broken forward on a couple of occasions
8′ GOAL!!! Fiji 0 New Zealand 1: The All Whites go in front when goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau fails to hold a Leo Bertos free kick and Tommy Smith follows up to knock in the rebound
15′ Avinesh Suwamy lofts a free kick towards the New Zealand goal from a long way out that initially looks to have caught goalkeeper Mark Paston out but he gathers comfortably in the end

20′ The All Whites pass up a good chance to extend their lead when Tamanisau leaves his line to save at the feet of Smeltz and Marco Rojas fails to find the target with his follow-up effort

38′ Vicelich suffers a nasty landing when jumping for a header and play is held up while he receives treatment
