Former Bolton and Blackburn Rovers manager Allardyce takes over from Avram Grant, who was dismissed after failing to lead the club away from relegation out of the Premier League.
Reid, 22, signed a three-year contract when he joined West Ham in August 2010 after catching the eye with several commanding performances at the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
But his first year in England’s top flight has not gone as he would have hoped and the Auckland-born defender made only a handful of appearances as West Ham slipped down to the second-tier Championship.
Media reports have suggested he could be on his way out of the club but Reid is keen to stay and fight for his place under the new manager. Whether he will be part of Allardyce’s plans remains to be seen though.
“If you get a manager that tells you, ‘I don’t think I’ll need your services for next season’, then you’re going to have to find something new aren’t you?” he says.
“But I’m happy here and it’s a good club. I’ve only been here for one year and obviously haven’t played as much as possible but I believe in my qualities and eventually my time will come.”
The athletic centre-back was in action for the All Whites yesterday but could not manage to prevent Ricki Herbert’s men falling to a 3-0 loss to Mexico in Denver. Reid and his team mates travel to Adelaide today and will meet Australia at Adelaide Oval in another international friendly on Sunday.
