Former defender Cafu played over 140 times for Brazil and is the only player ever to have appeared in three World Cup finals, winning two of them, in 1994 and 2002.
He was best known for his tireless overlapping runs and was named by Pelé as one of the 125 greatest living footballers in 2004.
Cafu, whose full name is Marcos Evangelista de Moraes, is now part of Play Fair Brazil, a team that travels the world to promote goodwill through football and help raise the level of the game in the respective countries it visits.
The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has been in talks to bring the team to Oceania and chief executive officer Bob Kumar says a two-match series with the national side has been agreed upon.
The games have been pencilled in to take place on August 23 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi and August 25 at Govind Park in Ba.
It is also hoped the Play Fair Brazil stars will conduct some coaching clinics and Kumar is excited at the prospect of the tour.
“This is a huge opportunity for both the local fans and in terms of promoting the sport,” he says. “Opportunities like these do not come along every day and we will need to make the most of this.”
The team are scheduled to spend four days in Fiji before departing for a four-country tour of Asia.
In addition to the legendary Cafu, the Play Fair Brazil ranks have been known to include Giovanni and Zé Carlos – both members of the Brazil squad that finished runners-up at the 1998 FIFA World Cup – as well as 1994 World Cup winner Paulo Sérgio.
