“I’ve come back and played in the youth internationals for Fiji, so coming back is a big thing for me,” the Australian-based Swamy says.
He may not be a familiar face, but having worked his way up through the age-groups for his birth-country, he’s hoping to crack the senior side in the very near future.
“Unfortunately after the U-23s I got called up to the senior team but had a few injuries and work commitments which prevented me from joining up with them.
“I’m looking at the OFC Champions League as a chance to maybe get a look back in.”
From Labasa, his father Anand Swamy may be more familiar to locals having played and coached Fiji in the past.
“I’ve still got family here and everyone is so welcoming, so it definitely feels like I’m coming home,” he says.
“I think it also means that I want to do well because I have a point to prove as well.”
Swamy believes every side here will put up a good challenge and he’s keen to see how his Amicale side can perform over the duration.
Amicale line up against home side Nadi FC this afternoon on Match Day 5 of the OFC Champions League at Churchill Park in Lautoka, Fiji.
