HONIARA – Kossa FC’s OFC O’league campaign has been boosted with an injection of $268,000 dollars by the Taiwanese government this afternoon.

Honiara-based Taiwan ambassador His Excellency George Chan handed over SBD$268,000 ($47,857 NZD) to Kossa FC President Dr. Transform Anqorau in a brief ceremony at the SIFF Academy.

Also in attendance was SIFF President Martin Alufurai, his General Secretary Eddie Ngava, Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Fred Fakari’i, Kossa players and media representatives.

His Excellency Chan told the Kossa players and officials present that the provision of funds should help them win their two matches.

“It is of importance that the winner of these two matches will represent OFC at the FIFA Club World Club in Japan in December 2008.

“I believe that with the endeavor and determination of your excellent players, Kossa will win the final game and make history,” he said.

As a staunch ally of the Solomon Islands, Taiwan has involved itself actively in many facets of Island life such as agriculture, education, health, transportation and rural development.

Referring to the funding, he says the Prime Minister had requested it and Taiwan realizing football’s importance to Solomon Islanders as its Number one sport agreed to assist Kossa.

“It is a sport that can unite the country and help fly the Solomon Islands flag high abroad in both regional and international competitions. We are proud to respond to the funding request in short time notice,” he said.

Ambassador Chan further stresses that the provision of funds has again demonstrated that Taiwan is a friend whom Solomon Islands can rely on.

He says he appreciates the efforts Kossa has put into their campaign which saw them qualify for the finals.

“I hope you will win the final game. Remember you can make it and create history and fly Solomon Islands national flag high in Tokyo, December 2008.”

Kossa president Dr. Transform thanked the Taiwan ambassador for the funds and the Solomon Islands Government – particularly the Prime Minister for facilitating the request for assistance.

He assures His Excellency Chan that the money will be used for purposes it is intended for and Kossa team will give 100 percent effort in their two matches.
