Both teams shrugged off heavy underfoot conditions and a testing wind to turn in a sparkling display which produced a handful of goal-scoring opportunities and plenty of excitement for the 5000-strong crowd.
The supposed home side found themselves with scant support compared to the massive crowd behind the visiting team.
Playing with the wind, Ba took the lead when Petero Dauniseka scored just before the break.
Jason Rowley snatched the equaliser for Waitakere, who showed some good touches in their first hit-out after only a couple of training sessions ahead of the impending ASB Premiership.
Their cause was helped when Ba were reduced to 10 men after Manueli Kalou was sent off for a second yellow card.
For a pre-season friendly there was plenty of feeling which only added to a great football occasion in a tremendous atmosphere.
Ba were thoroughly entertaining and went very close to scoring on two other occasions with one shot hitting the underside of the crossbar before bouncing out.
Waitakere too hit the woodwork, much to the delight of the Ba supporters who turned out in their thousands to support the Fijian team.
There are already plans for a repeat fixture next year with the likelihood Waitakere will travel to play Ba in Fiji.
