The IDC Super Premier final between Ba and Suva was abandoned on Sunday evening with just two minutes of extra-time remaining after a Suva strike effectively ended Ba’s hopes for the title.
Waisake Navunigasau scored for Suva but the goal led to protests from Ba players who, after confronting assistant referee Kavitesh Behari, refused to play the remainder of the match.
Security and police officers were required to escort the match officials and Suva players from the field at Govind Park following the decision to abandon the game.
After an emergency meeting of the Fiji FA board of control at its headquarters in Vatuwaqa on Wednesday, president Rajesh Patel announced the decision to award the match to Suva.
“Suva is now the 2012 Courts Inter District Championship winner and on behalf of the Fiji FA family I would like to congratulate Suva for a magnificent outing at the IDC,” he says.
He confirmed that Ba has been fined for the incident while further disciplinary action will be taken once a full inquiry into the matter has been completed.
“The Fiji FA board has decided, under Article 58 of its disciplinary code, to fine Ba $5000 FJD for refusing to play the remainder of the match,” Patel says.
“Disciplinary action will be taken against players and officials that initiated this saga but first we will need time to investigate the people involved before putting in charges against them.”
