“It’s been nice,” the defender says of the time spent with the 2014 OFC Champions League and President’s Cup runners-up.
“The last few years I’ve been playing with Solomon Warriors and Hekari United and now I’m back playing in Vanuatu. I feel like I’m playing for my club and my country and I feel proud about that.”
Kaltack’s debut with Amicale FC against Western United was an inspired one; strong in the air, pressuring the opposition midfield and making some decisive tackles,
And despite his relative experience in this competition, it was a nervy start for the Vanuatu international.
“I was nervous the first game because of the crowds, but I fit in well with the boys and within the first ten mintues I was getting into the game and I feel confident enough and just displayed what I can.”
With Western United out of the way but Auckland City FC and Suva still to come, Kaltack says Amicale can not rest easy just yet.
“In a competition, the first match is always important because it give you confidence for the first game and the one after that,” he says.
“Now we’ve won our first game, but it’s just the first one. We’re just going to keep our heads high, remain confident in ourselves and our abilities, and take it one game at a time.”
Returning home after his time abroad, Kaltack says fitting in hasn’t been a problem, despite orginally being a product of Amicale domestic rivals Erakor Golden Star.
“Back home what helps me fit in is to have fun together, from there I’ve been able to fit in well with the boys in training.
“Even though I play with Erakor, I’ve been able to fit in well. It’s different playing for the two clubs but with any team you have to fit into their culture, their environment and I’m just patient, watch what they do and follow that.”
While it’s Kaltack’s first OFC Champions League with Amicale, he was a member of the team when it competed at the OFC President’s Cup in November last year, their history in this competition has Kaltack excited.
“I made my decision well. I wanted to join Amicale because they have a good history and professionally they are a good team.
“I’ve been to many OFC Championships – U-20, U-23, and the senior level is a bit different; it’s more competitive. The teams are after more discipline and it’s a tough competition.”
Kaltack returns to action at the 2015 Fiji Airways OFC Champions League with Amicale FC taking on hosts Suva FA at 7pm on Tuesday 14 April at ANZ Stadium in Suva.
