The defender was one of several stand-out players who helped Golden Star into the runners-up spot during the team’s maiden appearance in the domestic TVL Premier League during the 2012 season.
Golden Star manager Donald Wanemut says the club had a lot of interest in Kaltak, including from fellow Vanuatu outfit Amicale, and the decision to release him to the Papua New Guinea club followed a lot of intensive discussion.
“Both Amicale and Hekari have in effect made similar offers,” Wanemut says.
“However, Hekari have promised to loan a player to Golden Star during the National Super League and that is why we have accepted the offer from them.”
The two clubs, Erakor Golden Star and Hekari United, established a relationship during the 2012 OFC Champions League, with the Port Moresby-based side inviting striker Jean Kaltak to join the club.
The move wasn’t possible due to restrictions in regards to player’s ages but the two sides have remained in contact.
Hekari chairman John Kapi Natto says the club is pleased to have the services of Kaltak for Oceania’s premier club tournament.
“On behalf of the entire management team at Hekari, I am very excited that Brian has verbally accepted our offer to sign with us for the 2013 season,” Natto says.
“We have monitored him closely after we brought Jean Kaltak to Papua New Guinea and we look forward to reuniting the pair once Jean has turned 19. In the meantim, Brian will be heading to Port Moresby to commence training with the rest of the squad.”
Kaltak will be playing alongside the likes of Joachim Waroi, a former Amicale player, Kema Jack and David Muta.
