Close to a dozen free workshops are already confirmed at a number of clubs in the Auckland Football region and the details are all available on the AFF workshop calendar here
Many of these will be hosted at Auckland Football affiliate clubs and online registrations are now open (to register visit the AFF workshop calendar).
The free workshops have been available since 2011 and have been attended by hundreds of participants over the last three seasons from a wide variety of coaching and volunteer backgrounds.
All guests who attend each two-hour workshop will receive supporting course content and resources, plus free access to Football Online, a newly-developed NZ Football coaching platform, where they will also be able to access additional support material.
The workshops, which all have a practical element, focus on age-appropriate coaching and will provide the participants with coaching techniques they can put into practice, as well as giving examples of easy-to-follow training sessions.
They are most relevant to those that are involved in the ASB First Kicks, Fun Football and Mini-Football sections of the coaching framework as many of the common challenges of a first-time coach are addressed.
“We have seen first-hand just how beneficial these free workshops are in helping coaches put together fun coaching sessions,” Auckland Football development officer Steven Dillon says.
“But we are also helping clubs develop a skilled workforce in order to give their young players the best possible football experience. These workshops are also designed to help reduce the pressure on volunteers by providing them with enough resources to last the season and potentially help inspire them to continue their own development through the NZ Football coaching pathway,” he adds.
“These positive experiences for both players and game leaders are made possible by the fantastic supporting resources that have been put together by NZ Football and we hope people take up the numerous opportunities to attend before the season kicks off in a few weeks’ time.”
Auckland Football has worked with a number of other organisations to provide the workshops, including Unitec and Special Olympics New Zealand, who offer the free courses as part of their programmes.
