The Delta Tigers beat Navua 1-0 in the final at Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Sunday afternoon thanks to a 41st-minute strike from Solomon Islander Abraham Iniga.
Rewa skipper and goalie Simione Tamanisau said the win was made possible through the effort put in by the players and the support of the fans and team management.
“First of all I would like to thank the almighty for this victory,” he said.
“I’m lost for words and just can’t describe the feeling of winning the Battle of the Giants title. The boys played their hearts out for the victory and I must thank the Rewa supporters and team management.”
The win was a reversal of the result from when the two sides met earlier in pool play. Navua, who included Auckland City stars Matt Williams and Adam Dickinson in the line-up posted a 1-0 victory on that occassion but could not repeat that feat in the final.
Rewa went into the final in good form after thumping Lautoka 4-0 in the semi-final while Navua edged Nadi 2-1. Rewa had earlier defeated Lautoka, Labasa, Tavua and giants Ba and their path to glory.
Rewa striker Veresa Toma was awarded the prize for best player of the tournament while Dickinson was the recipient of the golden boot for scoring the most goals.

Dickinson notched a total of six strikes, the most crucial being the last-minute goal which rescued a 2-2 draw for Navua against Ba.

This is Rewa’s fourth title since the inception of the second Fiji Football Association tournament in 1978. The last time Rewa lifted the prestigious trophy was six years ago after beating Ba 2-0 in the final.

Ba failed to win the title for the fifth year in a row after bundling out at the round robin stage.
