On Saturday, 150 coaches from Tahiti met players from the World Cup Winning France ‘98 team.
After the meeting Oceania Football Confederation President Mr Reynald Temarii addressed the instructors, remanding them that they are the root of local football, and that their passion and drive in the Tahitian territory (Fénua) is what will progress the game here. He also reiterated his strong commitments to the mission he carries in his heart, developing football in Oceania.
The visit of staff from France 98, with the likes of Henri Emile, Lionel Charbonnier, Frank Sylvestre, Christian Karembeu, Sabri Lamouchi and Pascal Vahirua was hugely appreciated.
Speeches from Henri Emile, followed by stories from two Oceania players, Pascal and Christian, about their journey before becoming professionals, was a key point that the two players wanted to share with young players. A message of hope but also emphasizing about the seriousness and discipline needed.
The last guest to arrive in Oceania, was defender Antoine Kombouar whose illustrious career included games for WS Plum Noum, FC Nantes and PSG and he gave his thoughts on playing again in the Pacific.
" This tour of the Pacific represent emotionally something very strong. Especially with the number of great players included, headed by Zinedine Zidane.
“As a Pacific player myself, with Christian Karembeu and Pascal Vahirua, it is a huge pride to join the elite of French soccer. This proves that we can too achieve great things. We are happy to welcome them and show our beautiful pacific region. Football-wise,
I am keeping an eye on the performances of oceanian players, but I notice that we lack training structures. This is important as it is required if a player want to play in France".
