Hekari United defeated Gigira Laitepo Morobe 3-0 in the 1st semi-final match played at Sir John Guise Stadium over the weekend.
The win for Jerry Allen coached side now means they will appear in a record, six consecutive grand-final since the inception of the competition in 2006. Hekari United striker Raymond Gunemba starred for his team, scoring a hat-trick to down a very good competitive Gigira outfit.
The Morobean made his intension known in the 24th seconds when he powered home the first goal for Hekari to lead 1-0. Sixteen minutes later Gunemba again beat the Morobe defence to put his team in front by two.
Playing alongside Solomon Islander Joachim Waroi, the former Gigira Laitepo Morobe forward did not show any mercy against his former teammates. Hekari holding the two-nil lead advantage going into halftime.
In the second half, Hekari came back strongly to defend the lead. Skipper David Muta and Wira Wama stepped up in the midfield to launch raid into Morobe territory. Muta and Wama were class above all with their clever passes and footwork which made their opposition guessing.
The game was well over when Muta passed the ball onto Wama who beat the Morobe defence to put Gunemba through who kicked the ball over Gigira goalkeeper Ronald Warisan for the three goal haul for the afternoon.
Meanwhile in the 2nd semi-final match over in Lae FC Port Moresby denied Besta PNG United’s hope for the grand-final spot with a 2-0 victory. Besta PNG United face an all Morobe affair when they take on Gigira Laitepo Morobe for the third and fourth placing in the 2013 Telikom National Soccer League season.
