Wood has been in sensational form since joining the Blues on loan from Premiership club West Bromwich Albion, scoring eight goals in 11 appearances, including seven in the Championship to be third in the golden boot race.
The 19-year-old had expressed his desire to stay with Birmingham and told the club’s official website he was pleased to have the deal extended to January 5.
“I’ve settled in really well here and all of the lads, who are a great bunch, have really taken to me,” he said.
“We are beginning to gel as a team and as a squad and I think that’s starting to show in our performances and results. I’m very pleased to have scored the goals that I have but it’s only the start.
“Together we have to keep putting in the performances and picking up the results to move up the league.”
Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton is pleased to have secured the youngster’s services for a longer period.
“We are delighted the loan has been extended as it’s one that has worked very well for the player and for the club.”
Meanwhile, the Wellington Phoenix have signed Junior All White Cameron Lindsay as one of three U-21 players in the squad.
The versatile 18-year-old, who can play in midfield or defence, is yet to arrive from English club Blackburn Rovers, whom he joined in 2008 as an academy player.
Lindsay was part of the Young All Whites squad that made history at the 2008 FIFA U-17 World Cup as the first New Zealand team to progress past the group stage of a FIFA event, and was also a member of the Junior All Whites squad at this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.
