In June, Hester became the first Kiwi to referee at a senior men’s FIFA World Cup when he, Hintz and Tevita Makasini from Tonga officiated the Group B match between Korea Republic and Greece. Peter O’Leary was also a fourth official during the tournament while fellow New Zealander Brent Best acted as a reserve assistant referee.
Although Hester has officiated at the FIFA World Cup, Confederations Cup, Olympics and U-17 World Cup, it will be his first time at a FIFA Club World Cup.
Hester and Hintz will join Papua New Guinea side Hekari United, who face hosts Al Wahda in a play-off for the quarter finals on December 8, in representing OFC at the prestigious event.
