Avinesh was on form during Lautoka’s 3-0 win over Marist at Churchill Park on Sunday afternoon meaning the Fijian club champions now sit top of Group B with nine points ahead of Tafea and Hekari United.
The former Navua rep had a hand in each goal, the first through a well directed corner kick for Osea Vakatalesau to nod in the first goal of the match in the 8th minute of play. Vakatalesau returned the favour setting up Avinesh just after half-time for Lautoka’s second before the midfielder sent in another perfect corner for inspirational captain Jone Vono Junor to thunder home.
Speaking to Fiji FA Media following the match, Avinesh said he was pleased with his performance.
“All I can say is that I played my heart out. Everything in life needs a good beginning and I had to prove something in my first O-League match.
“Players in Fiji dream of playing in the O-League and not many have been given this opportunity but I would like to thank my team mates and Lautoka officials for their effort. I can say that this victory was simply down to team work,” Avinesh said.
In 2009 Avinesh was part of the Navua team which won the 2009 Vodafone Fiji FACT Championship and Courts Homecenters Inter District Championship. After joining Lautoka this season he played a key contribution in helping to win the 2010 Pillay Garments Champion versus Champion series.
He was part of the national beach soccer side last year and this season has been attending trials in order to make the national futsal side.
Avinesh hopes to have a successful year.
