OFC: Australian Socceroo star, Brett Emerton, will be presented in person the 2002 Oceania Footballer of the Year award this morning in Sydney. The presentation will take place at The Olympic Club, 64 Tennent Parade at Hurlstone Park, Sydney, Australia, at 10:00am (AEST).
Emerton was announced the winner of the award back in March, the first time he has won the award after coming close on previous occasions. Emerton first appeared in the poll in 2000 when he was fifth with 21 votes.
Currently based with Feyenoord in Holland, this year he polled 63 votes from last year’s winner and fellow Socceroo team-mate Harry Kewell (46) and another Socceroo, goalkeeper Schwarzer (39).
The national coaches and senior officials of all national associations as well as selected sports journalists from around the Oceania region are invited to vote.
The Oceania Footballer of the Year Award is coordinated annually by veteran Australian based journalist Ted Simmons, in conjunction with the Oceania Football Confederation
